NEELA'S JOURNEY TO COX'S BAZAR Neela lives in Dhaka. Her school is closed on the occasion of summer vacation. Monotonous classes and want of recreation have made her life very dull. She does not find any scope to make the best use of the vacation. One day her father tells her that they will go to Cox's Bazar. As soon as she hears it from her father, she is beside herself with joy. He tells her that they will start their journey tomorrow early in the morning. Neela looks very happy and excited. She has heard a lot about the natural scenic beauty, the beautiful scenes of the sun rising and sunset, the strong waves lashing against the sea shore and many other romantic things at Cox's Bazar. There was a no meaning of knowledge to him. It was the month of Baishakh. A scholar got into his boat. He was enjoying his journey very much because the weather was very fine. It was almost dark. He was gossiping with the boatman. "Did you have any knowledge about the creation of the universe?" the scholar asked the boatman. "No," replied the boatman. The scholar got astonished and told him, "Without the knowledge of astronomy half of your life is spoit. The boatman was sad and thought of the uselessness of his life. VALUE OF ATTIRE / DRESS DOESN'T MAKE ONE GREAT  Sheikh Saadi was a great poet in Iran. He used to lead a very simple life. Once on his way to the court of the king of Iran, he took shelter in a nobleman's house for a night. He was then in very simple dressed. The servants of that house took him for an ordinary man. They did not care for his comfort at all. They gave him very simple food. Saadi felt very sad but did not tell anything to anybody and somehow passed the night. In the morning, he started for the court. He reached the court and stayed there for some days. On his way back home, he again took shelter in that nobleman's house. This time he was in rich clothes. "How much a year do you earn?" The cobbler laughed and said, "How much a year, Sir; I never reckoned in that way, living as I do from hand to mouth; each day some how brings its meal and I am happy. The banker said, "I have resolved to place you above the fear of want. Take these thousand pounds, preserve them carefully and use them in time of need." One day, while selling flowers in the traffic jam, she found a small wallet lying on the street. She picked it up and found none around her looking at it. But she is honest by the core of her heart. She did not even open the wallet. She went to the nearest police station to inform the matter. His teacher tried his best to teach him English but the man could not understand the rules of grammar. However, the teacher released him. The man grasped only three English words. He learned 'yes', 'no' and 'very well'. But the man did not know their meaning. He came to his own village and told the villagers that he was wellversed in English. He used the three words while speaking with any man. If anybody asked him any question or discussed a thing with him, he would say either 'yes' or 'no' or 'very well'. THE FOX WITHOUT A TAIL  One day a fox in a jungle fell into a trap. He tried hard to be free and managed somehow but lost his tail. Without the tail the fox looked strange and ugly. He felt sad and ashamed. So he hit upon a plan. He called a meeting of all the foxes in the jungle. Seeing all the foxes in the meeting, he was very much pleased. When he stood up to deliver his speech, other foxes were making fun of him seeing him without tail. He got the point and so he told them to keep quiet. But the members could not enjoy sound sleep. Even the little babies were not free from the attack and biting of the rats. The rats would take away foods, cut cloths and tear holes here and there. All the members were in great trouble. At last the owner of the house hit upon a plan. He knew that rats would run away at the sight of cats. So, he bought a cat. The mice were very afraid of the cat. They fell in a great difficulty because they could not move freely as before. A THIRSTY CROW It was a hot day in summer. There was scorching heat of the sun. On that day a crow became very thirsty. It wanted to drink but there was no water around it. So, it began to fly and look for water. It flew on and on in search of water but in vain. Then it took a rest as it was tired. After that it started flying in search of water for the second time. All on a sudden, it found a jar in a field.. Its joys knew no bounds seeing the jar. So, it flew down near the jar. When it peeped into the jar, to its surprise it found a little water at the bottom of the jar. It tried heart and soul to reach the water level but failed because the neck of the jar was too narrow for the crow to enter into it. Then it thought it had to leave the place without drinking. But the problem arose how to divide it because each of the rats wanted the larger part. When they failed to reach any conclusion, they went to a monkey who is considered to be the wisest of all the animals. They requested the money to divide the bread equally. The monkey brought a pair of scales. He torn out the bread into two pieces and put them on the scales. He told the rats that one piece was clearly heavier than the other. So, he bit off a part of the bigger piece. As a result the other piece became heavier. Then the monkey took a part from the heavier piece and put it on the scales.
